Long Distance Rides

One of my interests is long distance motorcycle rides. I just like to watch the miles go under the front wheel. I had one attempted "Iron Butt" ride and have completed four "Iron Butt" rides. Check out “Unfinished Iron Butt” for details of that ride. The article appeared in my local HOG chapter newsletter.

My current bike is a 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic that I call MAX:

I did all of my Iron Butt rides on a 2004 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide (FXDWGI), which I called Faithful. This is how my bike looked new, but I've made a few changes.

My first official attempted Iron Butt ride was from Macomb Michigan to Bowling Green Kentucky and back via a slightly different route to Macomb Michigan, this was my attempted ride. Also, I have completed a Lake Michigan 1000, a lower Great Lakes 1000 and two 1000 mile rides from St. Clair Shores to Mary Esther Florida and back.

So far I have yet to mail in my witness forms and copies of my gas receipts to actually get certifications and patches for any of my rides. I've always seem too be busy with something else, like this website which has taken me two years to actually do anything with.

While the actual certifications would be very nice, the enjoyment and personal sense of satisfaction is every bit as important.
